To help protect the health and well-being of all horses in Sullivan Canyon, the Sullivan Canyon Preservation Association (SCPA) requires current vaccination records for all horses and may implement additional health and biosecurity measures as needed.

Vaccination Policy:

All horses using the site must have current vaccination records on file with SCPA.

• Vaccination records must accompany the Horse Registration Form for all new horses entering the site.

• Updated vaccination records are required twice per year and may be requested in conjunction with biannual dues invoices.

Health Certificates:

To protect the equine community from contagious diseases, SCPA may require veterinary health certificates for horses entering or returning to the site.

New Horses and Horses Returning After an Extended Absence:

All horses arriving at Sullivan Canyon for the first time, or returning after an extended period away, must provide a veterinary Health Certificate dated within 2–5 days of arrival.

The certificate must verify that:

• The horse shows no clinical signs of contagious disease.

• The horse is not coming from a property with known or suspected cases of contagious disease.

Horses Returning from Off-Site Activities:

Any horse returning to Sullivan Canyon after attending a horse show, clinic, training facility, boarding facility, or any other off-site location may be required to provide a veterinary Health Certificate dated within 2–5 days prior to returning to the site.

When requested, the certificate must verify that:

• The horse shows no clinical signs of contagious disease.

• The horse has not been exposed to known or suspected cases of contagious disease.

Additional protocols may be implemented during disease outbreaks or other circumstances that pose a risk to the health of horses within the canyon.

Disease Prevention & Biosecurity:

During periods of increased disease risk, including outbreaks of Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) or other communicable equine diseases, SCPA may establish temporary protocols, travel restrictions, quarantine measures, health certificate mandates, or other actions deemed necessary to protect the health and safety of horses using the site.

Horse owners are responsible for complying with all current health and biosecurity policies before bringing a horse onto the property.

Compliance:

Failure to comply with SCPA health and biosecurity policies may result in disciplinary action, including temporary suspension of site privileges. The duration and nature of any suspension or restriction will be determined by SCPA based on the circumstances and potential risk to the equine community.

Additional Information:

Veterinarians may experience increased demand during periods when health certificates are needed. Owners are encouraged to schedule appointments well in advance when planning transportation or the arrival of a new horse.

 

Because disease conditions can change rapidly, SCPA reserves the right to modify these policies at any time as necessary to protect the health and safety of horses in Sullivan Canyon.
