Community Outreach and School Programs
Ahead with Horses
Since 1968, AHEAD (Accelerated Habilitation Education And Development) With Horses, Inc. has provided unique, highly motivating, and effective therapy, education, and recreational programs through horses and related experiences for children with disabilities, primarily ages 12 and under.

For many years, AHEAD With Horses has partnered with the Sullivan Canyon Preservation Association, which serves as the organization's Westside Los Angeles location in addition to its main facility in Shadow Hills. The program utilizes the SCPA site every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is supported by both equine and human volunteers from the SCPA community.

Families interested in placing a child on the waiting list may do so through the AHEAD With Horses website.
​AHEAD With Horses is devoted to improving the quality of life of disabled, disadvantaged, and special needs children through equine assisted therapy using vaulting, often described as gymnastics on horseback. Whether it is witnessing a smile from an otherwise non-responsive child or watching a child take their first steps, participants regularly achieve meaningful physical, mental, and emotional milestones that can last a lifetime.​
SCPA is proud to support the program through its annual Ride-A-Thon and Family Day Fundraiser, which helps raise funds and awareness for the important work AHEAD With Horses provides to children and families throughout the community.
Harmony Hills Group
Harmony Hills Group provides equine assisted programs that foster growth, connection, and well-being through meaningful interactions with horses.

Harmony Hills Foundation is the nonprofit arm of Harmony Hills Group, dedicated to expanding access to equine assisted programs for children, families, and community populations in need.​

Educational Field Trips
SCPA hosts field trips to the site for the Hoover and 20th Street Elementary Schools of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The day consists of demonstrations, hands on horse grooming, crafts and a trail hike. Pizza and snacks are included. These events are run by SCPA volunteer members, resident trainers and SCPA staff.
